Adam Howell and Kyle Healey are the 2018 Renegade Bass Tour Classic Champions. Two days of fishing against the best anglers in Canada on the St. Lawrence River resulted in 49.57 pounds of smallmouth and a brand-new Bass Cat / Mercury boat package. The rookies took the lead on day 1 with 24.83 pounds and followed that up 24.74 pounds on day two to take the Classic XXIII title and a new boat by .5 pounds.
“Words can’t even describe. It’s kind of like you dream about it, you don’t know how it’s going to happen, you just hope it’s going to happen, and it did.” Said Howell when asked about how it feels to win the Classic.
Family was an integral part to their success this year. They had family come out to support them at each event; there was help financially from the Healey’s through sponsorship, and relatives Leonard Horbik and Steve Barnett were there to talk fishing all year long. “It means a lot, it really means a lot. Family helps out with everything, we couldn’t do it without them.” Said Healey.
Despite the success this season, the duo didn’t go through their year without their share of turmoil. After Q2 they had their 250-horsepower motor stolen right off of the back of their boat one night, leaving them motorless for Q3. They ended up needing to rent a boat for Q3 and managed to grind out a 19+ pound bag to save their season. They finally got a brand new 300-horsepower Mercury Pro XS motor strapped on their Bass Cat and put the throttle down for the rest of the season, finishing as the RBT Rookie Team of The Year and the 2018 RBT Classic champions.
Congratulations to Adam Howell and Kyle Healey on the big win. RBT wishes our anglers a great off-season!
