IMPORTANT RULE CHANGE
DAILY CATCH LIMIT HAS CHANGED FROM 5 FISH DOWN TO 4 FISH
Only largemouth and smallmouth bass greater than or equal to 12 inches in length (measured from tip of tail to tip of nose with mouth closed) are eligible for any Renegade Bass tournament event. A maximum of four (4) fish, in any combination of eligible species, may be weighed in. Weighing in a bass less than 12 inches will result in the loss of total weight for that tournament day.
The rationale for this reduced limit in the TIO is based on several factors. The Smallmouth Bass that are the primary target for anglers in the TIO are now much larger than they were historically (since invasive Round Gobies became available as a food source). Science from the Tufts Lab at Queens University has also shown that several factors make Smallmouth more susceptible to potential problems in livewells compared to Largemouth Bass. This new 4 fish limit will immediately drop the number of fish brought to the weigh-in by 20%. It will also provide these large fish with more space and oxygen in livewells and should make it easier for anglers to keep them in the best possible condition. This rule change is unprecedented for an event of this size, but the organizers believe that it is another important step to help conserve this world class fishery for future generations.
